Blowing Off the Dust

President Biden has returned from overseas.

The Mauve Report has been fully active for nearly a year. And we can finally add Diplomacy as a topic. So allow me to just crack my fingers, and let me wrap my head around the idea of such a thing happening.

This month President Joe Biden attended the G7 and NATO summits in the U.K. and Belgium. He then met with Vladimir Putin in Geneva.

As President Biden was a two-term VP, the G7 was not his first time at the diplomat’s table. Though it was his first trip as President, world leaders welcomed Biden back as a comrade, and as a refresher, as the last four years have not been, well, as diplomatic. However, the Group of Seven still have “ninety-nine” problems: COVID, cybercrime, and relations with China to name just a few.

These topics would set the mood for the NATO summit as well. Our previous President, of course, threatened to pull the United States out of NATO, so in the process, President Biden made the effort of recommitting.

Then it was on to Geneva to meet up with President Putin. President Biden has already received a fair share of criticism for even entertaining the idea. But at very least, he didn’t literally proclaim Putin to be “strong and powerful”, for simply denying the cybercrimes of 2016.

It’s a low bar, admittedly. But we shall stay tuned. Perhaps we’ll net positive this time around.
