Yesterday was swearing-in day for the new United States Congress, and an eventful day it was!
Nancy Pelosi was re-elected as Speaker of the House, though not as widely as in the past. More Republican Senators jumped on the bandwagon for objecting to Wednesday’s Congressional count of electoral votes, while others spoke out against it. Partisan Congressional bickering mirrored the tension of the moment as anyone would expect. And vandals left their marks on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Kentucky home, and Pelosi’s home in San Francisco.
But the biggest news was the Washington Post‘s report on a Saturday phone call between the President and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in which the President (while being recorded for over an hour of egregious claims and statements) requested the State of Georgia “find” the votes he needed (in November) to overturn the election he still claims to have won.
Incidentally, between now and Wednesday is the Georgia Senate runoff, which will decide which party wins the Senate majority, possibly by only two Senators, or one Vice-President.
